Studio Ghibli, a popular animation house in Japan, has gained quite a lot of mainstream attention in the past 5 -6 years. Though a few of their movies were well recognized even outside Japan, the name of the production house itself was still quite unknown. But surprisingly, the movies made by the production house gained sudden mainstream popularity and started being revered as “hidden gems” in the past decade and has resulted in the creation of a dedicated fan culture. So what’s the secret behind the sudden rise of Studio Ghibli’s popularity? Which aspect of their art struck a chord with an entire generation as a whole?

Obscure Allure- Keeping Traditional Printmaking Real and Relevant

If you had the chance to attend an art institution at any point in your life, chances are you’ve had exposure to the world of printmaking, even if only peripherally. If you haven’t, you may not be able to place your finger on what exactly making prints means- how would you define a “print” in the first place? Taught in art schools across the globe, the medium persists as a stepping stone, akin to drawing, painting or darkroom photography. Traditional printmaking has, in a commercial sense, been redundant for many, many years- obviously, printing technology has advanced. Nowadays, the art form inhabits a number of spaces both within and outside of the academic context, most of them small and largely unknown.

Preserving the History and Legacy of The Battle of Marathon

The Battle of Marathon was an incredible victory for the Greeks against the Persians, which demonstrated the power of superior tactics and strategy over sheer numbers. The legacy of this battle still lives on today in the form of a popular running race known as a marathon. Tourists visiting the area can visit the Tymbos of Marathon and the Archaeological Museum of Marathon as well as take part in initiatives created by We Love Marathon. This local volunteer team promotes collectivism and preserves cultural heritage in the area.

Charlie Visconage is the most unconventional of creatives: a D.C.-based, self-taught multidisciplinary artist, whose artwork is fueled by psychedelics, an insatiable yearning to translate (and transmit) his unique interpretation of reality and the human experience, (oh) and “the fun and art direction of Pee Wee’s Playhouse.” Many are drawn in by his fusion of neon colors (think bright pinks, brilliant blues, intoxicating yellows, intense reds, and vivid oranges) and provoked by his raw emotion. Each piece is reminiscent of a fever dream (but that’s the point). His art is a spilling out of complex feelings — part comedic, part darkness, fully human.
