Preserving the History and Legacy of The Battle of Marathon

The Battle of Marathon was an incredible victory for the Greeks against the Persians, which demonstrated the power of superior tactics and strategy over sheer numbers. The legacy of this battle still lives on today in the form of a popular running race known as a marathon. Tourists visiting the area can visit the Tymbos of Marathon and the Archaeological Museum of Marathon as well as take part in initiatives created by We Love Marathon. This local volunteer team promotes collectivism and preserves cultural heritage in the area.

Square Mile Music Scene: A Rural Colorado ‘Micro-Venue’ Survives on Heart

It was never their dream to open a music venue. It began as just a casual jam session between a few people who needed their fix, in a rural Colorado town with nowhere to cut loose. Booking musicians and selling tickets was just the natural thing to do. Twenty years later, Wildwood Sounds is still putting on shows, and owners Stephen Crawford and Konnie Kenan don’t have any plans to stop. But the little town of Del Norte has changed a lot in the last few years, as Coloradans flock from front-range population centers to the more affordable and out-of-the way places to live. For Wildwood, new residents could mean new regulars. But it also means new competition, and keeping folks coming through the doors is more complicated than it used to be.

Paying Attention to Poland

To many American travelers, venturing east of Berlin doesn’t usually fit the bill of the perfect European getaway. Places like Warsaw edge off the radar when it comes to planning a trip to Europe, possibly falling under a stereotype of a gray, somewhat uninviting Eastern Europe. However, while the entire continent bears scars of the last century, and Eastern Europe wears them perhaps most consciously, its cities continue to persist with irreplaceable character, merging their histories with contemporary culture and creativity.

Reality Ahead : The Time We Almost Airbnb’d in the Last Lawless City in America

Everyone has a film in which they are willing to suspend their disbelief in exchange for the comfort a certain narrative brings them. Mine was Into the Wild. Since the creation of the movie based off Jon Krakauer’s novel of the same name, countless young folk took to the idea of overthrowing materialism, institutionalism, and any other isms that might stand in the way of so-called freedom. As fresh university grads, much like the protagonist in the movie, my friend Maddy and I made the pilgrimage into the Californian desert, to a patch of the last seemingly ungoverned land in the States, called Slab City.

The Hidden Culture of Vietnam

Two tables had been joined to make just enough room for nearly a dozen people seated in tiny plastic chairs that seemed to just barely be able to support their own weight. Three teenage boys stood attentively, closely monitoring Son in case he had a demand or if anyone at the table needed a beer refill. But not just any beer: This was Bia Hoi.

THE MISHMASH OF CULTURES AND CROWDS IN THE STREETS OF OLD DELHI

Even though I was born and raised in a satellite city only 10 minutes from New Delhi, there is a lot of Delhi I have yet to see. One such place in Old Delhi. A crowded, noisy affair with narrow and twisted gallies (“roads” in Hindi), Old Delhi is a place where religion, tradition, and most importantly food, come together.
